Kenny And His Mother
Mother was a dark voice on the phone
Kenny come home
wherever he was he was never alone
Kenny come home
she was always there at the back of his mind
pulling the strings of his lifeline
what a way to smother
Kenny and his mother
Kenny had some friends in the city he knew
Kenny come home
and he would go visit them when he needed somebody to talk to
Kenny come home
but he could feel them laugh behind
at the little man with the child's mind
what a way to smother
Kenny and his mother
some of us are running from a personal doom
a shadowy pocket in the corner of the room
some of us are lucky, we can slough it aside
but what do you do when it lives inside
lives inside of your head
Kenny went berserk in a Seven Eleven
Kenny come home
at the end of his rope when he was thirty-seven
Kenny come home
he didn't know what he had done it for
he'd never done anything like that before
they took him downtown to the new city jail
Kenny come home
pictured and printed and settled his bail
Kenny come home
they sent for his mother to take him away
they said "keep him with you, it'll be better that way"
Kenny lay down but he could not sleep
Kenny come home
he was afraid of the silence and the secrets it keeps
Kenny come home
he thought about the crime at the root of it all
he thought about Jesus hung on the wall

Key To My Soul
restless wind is moving through the trees
temperature drops to a cold snap blow
you left your sweater on my bedside
I hope its warm where you decided to go
thinkin' 'bout what I never told you
I guess I didn't really know it myself
I spent my whole life lookin'
I was looking for somebody else
you hold the key
to the window of my soul
and there’s a wind outside
I hope it’s warm where you decided to go
‘cause it’s cold in here
and the window’s open wide
I'm gonna save my money up
put it in trust for a sun-shiny day
I'm gonna levitate you off of your feet
let the warm winds blow our blues away
everybody's got an outside
everybody's got an inside too
the only trick that you have to learn
is who to show it to
you hold the key
to the window of my soul
and there’s a wind outside
I hope it’s warm where you decided to go
‘cause it’s cold in here
and the window’s open wide

King Of Sleaze
Hey Joe, get out of my face
you been pushin’ that stuff all over the place
I got better things to do
than to be puttin’ up with the likes of you
Hey Joe, get out of my neighborhood
everybody knows that you’re up to no good
you’d sell cigarettes to an eight year old
how could you be so cold
hump-back camel, cough and wheeze
you gotta be the king of sleaze
Hey Joe, you really crossed the line
with that free rolling billboard sign
cruisin’ around all over town
somebody might have to knock it down
Hey Joe, you’d look a little strange
with your testicle face all rearranged
wouldn’t nobody say it was wrong
they’d just wonder what took so long
hump-back camel, cough and wheeze
you gotta be the king of sleaze
Hey Joe, this is war
I ain’t gonna play your cynical games no more
watchin’ you turn your money green
while I get hooked up to a lung machine
Hey Joe, say what you will
but I got a pretty good idea how many people you kill
and pretty soon in some little while
we gonna put you up on a murder trial
hump-back camel, cough and wheeze
you gotta be the king of sleaze
reality retaliates
prepare to meet your fate
time’s a-wastin’
I can’t wait to see you suffocate
-----------
King Of the Planet
who gives you the right
to be the king of the planet
throwin’ out the big fear
makin’ everybody panic
with your fist full of muscle
and your mouth full of lies
I know you
you’re just a coward in disguise
you take a whole generation
and you fit them to the mold
and turn them into fodder
by the time they’re nineteen years old
send them half way round the world
whenever trouble might start
then you bring them home in pieces
pin a medal on their body parts
no I will not keep myself in line
I ain’t no stranger to the danger signs
you say it’s for the freedom
oh but I disagree
I say it’s for the money
that funnel to the company
I say it’s for the oil
and the chain of command
and I say you could never wipe away
all the blood on your hands
you got your hired killers
we know them by their deeds
but they have no allegiance
they will bite the hand that feeds
they will come to your cities
and they will break down your doors
and they will introduce you to the
other side of your wars
no I will not keep myself in line
I ain’t no stranger to the danger signs
you say what’s my problem
how can I complain
I say because everything you do
you do in my name
and I’ll not stand idle
like some model little citizen
biting my tongue
while you do it all over again
so you better take care
you better watch what you do
‘cause there’s all eyes open wide
and they’re lookin’ at you
and there’s a fire to light
and there’s a match to burn
and one of these days these tables
are gonna turn
no I will not keep myself in line
I ain’t no stranger to the danger signs

KVI
we got a radio station here in town
thought you'd like to know
with the big anger and the little brain
and they do love to blow
they broadcast 24 hours a day
all around the clock
ain't no news, just bad reviews
and a whole lotta ugly talk
KVI, ain't no lie
now Mike Siegel, he got a show of his own
on which he does berate
and he hates that Seattle city mayor
so much he could fumigate
so when a rumor came 'round runnin'
from some wacko way out there
Ol' Mike he just grabbed at the chance
and put it on the air
now that city mayor, Norm Rice
he ain't too much of a fool
he brought all the might of the media light
on Mikey and his pidgeon stool
and everybody turned to look
as before their wonderous eyes
the mighty mouth of KVI
had to apologize
now you might think this is nothin'
you're probaly thinkin' "so what?"
it's just another slander
and you're right, it is, but
it's a slander that's growing
in popularity
and any way to help to slap it down
is all right with me
so when you're tunin' in that dial
don't just put it anywhere
there's some poisonous electricity
in the airwaves out there
catch 'em when they think they're gettin' away
push 'em so they fall
and maybe some day we can shut 'em down
once and for all
